How Alat is driving Saudi Arabia's advanced manufacturing for Vision 2030

Manufacturing in Saudi Arabia, under Vision 2030, provides global firms access to smart infrastructure, local talent, and MEA market growth.

  • Alat was founded in 2024 to support Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 mission.
  • The company aims to bring global businesses to Saudi Arabia through strategic alliances and investments.
  • Lenovo and TK Elevator are two of the companies currently working with Alat.

In 2016, Saudi Arabia launched Vision 2030, a strategic blueprint to diversify the Kingdom's economy, empower its citizens, foster a dynamic environment for local and international investors, and position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in advanced manufacturing.

As part of this mission, Alat, founded in 2024 and based in Riyadh, is building a world-class manufacturing ecosystem designed to attract global partners and accelerate regional growth. By integrating automation and AI at the foundation of its operations, Alat is creating a platform where innovation, efficiency, and talent development converge.

A hub for global growth

Alat CEO Amit Midha speaks with global CEOs daily, noting that many are navigating one of the most turbulent periods in their careers. Supply chain disruptions, talent shortages, and rapid technological shifts are challenging companies worldwide, but Alat is able to gain an advantage by capitalizing on Saudi Arabia's infrastructure, policies, and resources to turn these challenges into opportunities.

"We have an unmatched geographical location for supply chain resilience, world-class government policies, ready infrastructure, and a highly skilled talent base," Midha says. "Combined with competitive energy costs and an ecosystem built around automation and AI, we enable our partners to transform, scale, and thrive."

Strategic partnerships driving innovation

Lenovo, a global technology leader, partnered with Alat in 2024 through a strategic investment focused on R&D, manufacturing, and sales of smart devices and infrastructure across the Middle East and Africa. The Riyadh facility will be Lenovo's largest factory outside China and the only site globally producing PCs, servers, and mobile devices under one roof, all designed with high automation and AI embedded in production and workforce processes.

"This collaboration strengthens supply chain resilience in the region and sets new standards for manufacturing efficiency," Midha notes.

Elevating urban mobility with AI

Alat also acquired a 15% stake in TK Elevator, forming a joint venture to locally manufacture elevators, escalators, and moving walks for Saudi Arabia and the wider MEA region. By embedding AI-driven predictive maintenance into manufacturing from the start, the partnership sets new standards for safety, reliability, and overall operational efficiency.

"Our collaboration with TK Elevator will localize cutting-edge mobility technology, create high-value skilled jobs, and embed world-class expertise in Saudi talent, strengthening the Kingdom's emerging advanced manufacturing cluster," says Midha.

With strong demand for sustainable and smart buildings, the joint venture positions Saudi Arabia as a hub for innovative urban mobility solutions, with the new product development center serving as a primary exporter across the MEA region.

SoftBank partnership accelerates next-gen robotics

Through its partnership with SoftBank, Alat is advancing the Kingdom's industrial capabilities by manufacturing world-leading autonomous industrial robots in a next-generation facility designed for global export markets.

This collaboration underscores Vision 2030's goal to attract foreign investment, foster technological innovation, and create a resilient, future-ready economy.

The opportunity of a lifetime

At this early stage, the opportunity is clear: advanced technologies enable us to build faster, smarter, and with stronger local capability, while preparing Saudi talent for the roles of tomorrow.

For companies seeking to establish manufacturing hubs in Saudi Arabia, Midha describes the moment as unprecedented. "To truly take advantage, we need a bold vision, strong conviction, and tremendous capability," he says.

Together with the Public Investment Fund (PIF), Alat is transforming Saudi Arabia into a global hub for advanced manufacturing, inviting companies to participate in an ecosystem where automation and AI meet strategic investment, world-class infrastructure, and unparalleled opportunity.
