A Russian general who figured heavily in President Vladimir Putin’s military propaganda campaigns has been killed in a drone strike.
The Russian leader has become increasingly paranoid about his safety and that of his top military brass following a spate of killings both on the battlefield and off, including several assassinations over the past few months in St. Petersburg and the capital city of Moscow.
As a sign of how highly Putin values his spin doctors, the 73-year-old has also encouraged his mouthpieces on Kremlin-controlled media to hire personal security details over concerns that they too could be targeted.
