Video has emerged showing the moment high-profile Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in California. The video shows ICE agents questioning and searching Chávez with his hands behind his back next to an open car door. Chávez does not appear to be resisting during the brief clip. The Department of Homeland Security said it detained the son of the legendary world boxing champion Julio César Chávez Sr. on Thursday, alleging he had been living in the country illegally and that a warrant is out for his arrest in Mexico over links to organized crime. DHS called Chavez an “egregious public safety threat.” Chávez’s arrest occurred days after he lost a high-profile bout with YouTube star turned fighter Jake Paul at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
