Country Publicly Humiliates Trump With Correction on $54B Deal

President Donald Trump appears to have gotten ahead of himself this week amid long-running negotiations with South Korea, potentially hindering the countries’ trade relationship.

Since securing last year’s $350 billion trade agreement, Trump has sought to turn Seoul’s pledge into U.S. energy projects in exchange for a lower tariff rate of 15 percent, down from the previous 25 percent, on South Korean goods.

He touted part of that exchange—$54 billion—at an Oval Office event on Wednesday. The South Korean investment would go to a struggling natural gas project in Alaska.
