A tourist visiting South Africa’s largest game park died after being trampled by an elephant in what officials called a “tragic accident.” South African national Shaik Adam Shabir Ammed, a 59-year old grandfather, died trying to protect two of his grandchildren, aged five and 11, who were visiting Kruger Park on Saturday. The children were taking photos of the animal near one of the busiest gates into the park after stepping out of their vehicle when it charged them, AFP reported. As they ran from the elephant, the children fell, and the animal attacked the 11-year-old boy with its trunk. Ammed tried to intervene before he was trampled. He died of his injuries before he could receive medical attention. Exiting your car is forbidden in most areas of the park, and South African National Parks issued a reminder for tourists to stay inside their vehicles when in the park.
