Police are searching for a 21-year-old British woman who went missing during a solo trip to California. Katherine Esther Gamboa Kerwood arrived on Tuesday, March 31, at San Francisco International Airport, where security camera footage shows she was greeted by a man carrying flowers. Her family later learned she had previously met the man, identified only as David, in her native U.K. Kerwood’s weeklong itinerary was scheduled to include stops in San Francisco, Sacramento, and Santa Cruz. Upon her arrival, she told her family she was staying at a hostel in Sacramento, but it turned out she never checked in. The last time her family heard from her was Friday, when she messaged them after an hours-long delay. The delay was already uncharacteristic, and when the family suggested a phone call, Kerwood never answered, according to a family friend. The disappearance has been reported to both the San Francisco Police Department and authorities in the U.K.
