Ted Bundy ‘Definitively Linked’ to Halloween Murder of Teen

New DNA testing has “definitively linked” the serial killer Ted Bundy to the half-century-old unsolved murder of Laura Ann Aime, a 17-year-old Utah girl who disappeared on Halloween night in 1974, reports the Associated Press. Police say Bundy confessed to the murder of Aime before his execution in 1989, but a definitive link could not be confirmed until now. “We’ve had the desire to deliver to you some type of healing, we can’t really say closure,” Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Reynolds said on Wednesday, addressing the girl’s family. The state’s crime lab preserved evidence from the case, and when it received advanced DNA testing technology in 2023, investigators were able to extract a single male DNA profile from the evidence, which was later matched to Bundy. “Laura Aime is the quintessential daughter of Utah County,” Reynolds said about the girl. Utah County is just south of Salt Lake City and includes the city of Provo. Aime, then studying at the University of Utah, was last seen at a party on Halloween night. She was found dead, bound, and undressed by hikers less than a month later. Bundy had a penchant for targeting girls, killing over 30 young women during his years-long murder rampage.
