The national park was notified of the hiker's disappearance on Monday afternoon.

The national park said his body was located about 2.5 miles up the Mt. Brown Trail approximately 50 feet off the trail in a densely wooded area with downed timber.

His injuries were consistent with those of a bear attack, Glacier National Park said.

This is the first time a person has been killed by a bear in Glacier National Park in nearly 28 years. The last fatality occurred on May 17, 1998, in Two Medicine Valley when a man was attacked by a female grizzly bear and two yearlings.

A woman was injured last August while hiking in Glacier National Park by a brown-colored bear and her two cubs. The species of bear was unable to be identified.
