Rockies reliever Pierson Ohl to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery

Ohl, acquired from Minnesota in a trade in January, had been a limited participant in spring training.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Rockies right-handed reliever Pierson Ohl will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery to repair his right elbow, the club announced Monday.

Ohl, acquired from Minnesota in a trade in January, had been a limited participant in spring training.

Other Colorado players who are missing some time during camp include left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland (low back strain), right-handed pitcherse McCade Brown (right shoulder inflammation) and Braun Castillo (right lat tightness), utility player Tyler Freeman (low back strain) and outfielder Mickey Moniak (right oblique tightness).

Moniak was scheduled to take live batting practice Monday and play in a Cactus League game later this week.

Freeman is “progressing” with treatment, the club said, and will begin throwing this week.
