Five Colorado restaurants land on OpenTable’s Top 100 in the U.S.

No surprise: Michelin-starred Alma Fonda Fina made the list, along with four others.

Four fine-dining restaurants in Denver and one in Vail are among the best the country has to offer, according to a popular review and reservation-booking website.

The foodie destinations were included in the annual list of top 100 restaurants released Tuesday morning by OpenTable. The company looked at restaurants with a “minimum threshold of diner reviews” and compiled the top 100 based on customer ratings, the number of reservations made, the percentage of five-star reviews and other criteria.

Colorado restaurants that made OpenTable’s Top 100

  • Alma Fonda Fina (2556 15th St., Denver)
  • Alteño (249 Clayton St., Denver)
  • Guard and Grace (1801 California St., Denver)
  • Kizaki (91551 S. Pearl St., Denver)
  • Matsuhisa Vail (141 E. Meadow Dr., Vail)

Alma Fonda Fina and Alteño feature elevated Mexican fare from chef Johnny Curiel. Alteño and Kizaki, an omakase counter, opened this year. The Vail location of Matsuhisa opened in 2011 and the Denver location of Guard and Grace, a steakhouse, opened in 2014.

The restaurants are no strangers to accolades. The Michelin Guide has recognized two with a star (Alma Fonda Fina and Kizaki) and two with a recommendation (Alteño and Guard and Grace). Alma Fonda Fina was also up for best new restaurant at the James Beard Awards this year.

Matsuhisa Vail is owned by the decorated celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa. His fusion of Japanese and Peruvian fusion is found at Nobu and other Matsuhisa restaurants around the world.

The OpenTable list featured places in 42 cities across the U.S. Of those cities, Chicago had the most inclusions with 16 recommended restaurants.

More than 60,000 restaurants use OpenTable as their reservations system, according to the company.
