New Commercial Diplomacy Approach To Bolster Support for American Companies

Today, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs Caleb Orr met with U.S. private sector leaders in New York City to discuss the State Department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen U.S. commercial diplomacy. At an event hosted by the Manhattan Institute, Assistant Secretary Orr championed the recent launch of the Commercial Diplomacy Enterprise (CDE) as the latest example of the Department’s success in advancing the principles laid out in the President’s National Security Strategy.  

Since January 20, 2025, the State Department has contributed to over $432 billion in wins for American companies, supportingover1.2 million U.S. jobs – and the CDE is helping to expanduponand acceleratethis success.

The CDE is the U.S. Department of State’s new coordinated approach to bolster support for American companies and U.S. economic interests abroad. This initiative aligns existing mechanisms and provides new tools for advancing U.S. commercial diplomacy priorities to deliver more wins for U.S. businesses and,in turn,create more jobs for American workers.
