A U.S. military transport plane has unexpectedly landed in Moscow, sparking speculation about what the aircraft was carrying and why it was sent to Russia.
Flight tracking service Flightradar24 shows that a Boeing C-17A Globemaster III, a U.S. military transport aircraft, arrived at Vnukovo International Airport on Tuesday morning.
The flight originated at the U.S. Air Force facility in Camp Springs, Maryland, near Washington, D.C., where Andrews Air Force Base is located. It stopped at Charleston International Airport in South Carolina before flying to Riga, the capital of Latvia, on Sunday. The plane then continued its journey and landed in Russia’s capital around 10 a.m. Moscow time (2 a.m. ET) on Tuesday.
