A bull moose first spotted in Evans on Tuesday morning that then evaded capture in Greeley later in the day was finally sedated and relocated Wednesday morning.
The moose was captured around 10 a.m. and relocated to a “more antler-friendly location,” according to a social media post from the Greeley Police Department.
The moose was spotted Tuesday morning in and around the Grapevine Hollow neighborhood in Evans, eventually heading north into Greeley’s Josephine B. Jones Park later that afternoon.
He evaded capture Tuesday night, prompting Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials to continue relocation efforts into Wednesday morning.
This was the third straight July a moose has made its way to Weld County. Last year, three moose were spotted in a handful of smaller Weld County communities, and in 2023, a moose was seen near the Weld County Jail in northeast Greeley.
Prior to that, the last sighting was in 2018.
