Eight months after testing the Koala Sofa Bed (4th Gen), it's still where you'll find me nearly every evening. The adorable small-space sofa is comfortable and supportive, and it transforms into a queen-size bed with a quick tug.
The Koala Sofa Bed is reasonably priced, but I can't deny the Koala Black Friday sale isn't appealing. From now through December 1, many of the brand's most popular sleepers and modular sofas are up to $1,500 off, with some at up to half price.
If you're looking to upgrade your living room before holiday guests arrive, my top pick is the Koala Sofa Bed, but there are several other discounted models worth considering, like the brand's newest launch, the Tamarama, which is Koala's customizable take on the Cloud Couch with a unique curved silhouette.

Why you'll love it
The beauty of this apartment-friendly and small-space sofa is that it doesn't necessarily look like a sofa bed.

The Koala Sofa Bed comes in four sizes, eight colors, and three fabric options. The queen-sized sofa measures 70 inches wide, making it compact enough for an apartment yet comfortable in larger living rooms. It's also offered in sizes ranging from 46-inch twin to 81-inch king. I was able to assemble it entirely on my own without needing any tools.
The surface of the Koala Sofa Bed [4th Gen] is just as supportive as the [3rd Gen] but far more comfortable. Koala upgraded this newest iteration by incorporating pillow-like inserts above the main cushions. The deep seat offers solid lumbar support, which keeps my lower back pain-free. The soft surface makes it easy to stretch out, though the back profile is slightly lower than I prefer—filling the space behind me with a throw pillow easily solves this when working on a laptop.
Converting the sofa takes only a few minutes and flips flat onto the floor. The mattress is surprisingly supportive for your hips and lower back, and I find it far superior to traditional pull-out couches with uncomfortable metal bars. Note that the mattress is on the firm side, so stomach and back sleepers will adapt quickest, while side sleepers may need a few nights to adjust. Conveniently, all sofa and pillow covers are fully removable, machine-washable, and water-resistant.
Good to Know
While assembly is tool-free, the washable covers don't come preinstalled and must be stretched over the frame, adding more effort to the assembly. The mattress is on the firmer side, and I notice the middle seam when lying down. If you're sensitive to these things, I suggest adding a soft topper for a little bit of softness.
Koala shipping, returns, and warranty
Every Koala sofa includes free shipping, a 120-night home trial, and a 5-year warranty for the original purchaser. Koala ships throughout the continental U.S. across multiple boxes (the 4th Gen Sofa Bed arrives in six). If you prefer a hands-off setup, White Glove Delivery is available for $179 and includes room-of-choice placement, full assembly, and packaging removal.
