KitKat wants your help finding over 25,000 pounds of chocolate lost in a heist

• Nestlé said a truck carrying 12 metric tons of KitKat products was stolen en route to Poland.

KitKat isn't going to "take a break" from searching for 12 tons of chocolate stolen in a heist over the weekend.

The brand, owned by Nestlé, launched a "Stolen KitKat Tracker" on Wednesday so the average sweet-toothed consumer can help solve the crime. In an X post, KitKit assured fans that it's not an April Fool's prank.

"Someone really stole 12 tonnes of KitKats. And we really want to know where they've gone," the post says.

Each KitKat bar has an 8-digit code on the back of the packaging. Customers can enter that code into the online tracker to find out whether they've found part of the stolen batch. In total, the thieves got away with 413,793 KitKats.

KitKat has leaned into the heist as a marketing opportunity. The tracker announcement has nearly 100,000 likes on X, and the heist itself was a viral moment for the candy company, spawning all kinds of memes on social media.

KitKat first reported the heist in social media posts on Sunday. Nestlé told The Athletic that the products were Formula 1 chocolate bars. KitKat, the official chocolate bar of Formula 1, said it had created a molded chocolate bar shaped like a Formula 1 car.

"We can confirm that 12T of KitKat products were stolen while in transit between our factory in Central Italy and their destination in Poland," the brand said on X. "We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate."

The brand said its overall supply is not affected, and that products are safe for consumption.
