Justin Trudeau’s Teenage Son Teases R&B Career

From Drake to The Weeknd to PartyNextDoor, Canada has produced its fair share of confessional hip-hop and R&B performers who set plaintive vocals to darkly lit urban environments in music videos. Another, apparently, is on the way: Xavier Trudeau, the 17-year-old son of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, teased a forthcoming single, “Til the Nights Done,” on his Instagram account Saturday. The brief clip shows him navigating the dimly lit streets of Ottawa as a slow-moving beat backs Xavier’s treated vocals humming “We could roll sum / we could light one.” The video suggests a February 21 release date. Hadi Hassin, a journalist with TVA in Montréal, noted Xavier’s mother, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, was among his followers—she also liked her son’s post and replied: “Good work guys!” If Xavier’s R&B career doesn’t pan out, he could take a shot at becoming a third-generation prime minister, after his father, who is set to step down later this year, and his grandfather, the late Pierre Elliott Trudeau. “I’m actually fine with this AS LONG AS Trudeau Jr Jr is formally banned from entering politics for the rest of his natural life,” tweeted Canadian singer-songwriter Dan Boeckner.
