Iran claims it has shot down an American fighter jet over the country for the first time, sparking what could be a dangerous new turn in the Middle East conflict.
Pictures circulating online showed parts of what appear to be an F-15E, and of USAF aircraft which specialize in combat rescues flying low over south-west Iran.
