In time-honored tradition, the first Saturday of April is dedicated to the Final Four of March Madness, and the first two teams shooting for a place in the 2026 National Championship game are the Fighting Illini and the Huskies. To discover how to watch Illinois vs. UConn live this weekend — and potentially for free — keep reading.
Illinois's passage to the Final Four has been a relatively serene one. After notching up over 100 points against Penn in the first round, they enjoyed comfortable victories over VCU and Houston, before coming up against the giant-killing Iowans. Despite being four points down at the break, 25 points from regional MOP Keaton Wagler underpinned a huge second half for Brad Underwood's team. Now comes a shot at the National Championship for the first time in two decades.
To get there, they'll have to overcome a UConn roster that is riding high following an almost unbearably dramatic East Regional final. Behind the No. 1-seeded Duke by as many as 19 points at one stage, a stellar Tarris Reed Jr. show hauled the Huskies back into the contest before Braylon Mullins sunk a long-range three with 0.4 seconds on the clock to take the game 73-72. Coach Dan Hurley simply knows how to get things done when it comes to winning games during March, and now he has the chance to lead Connecticut to a third championship in four years.
When these two met at Madison Square Garden in November, UConn came out on top. But with Wagler, David Mirković, and Andrej Stojaković firing on all cylinders, it's hard to call which way this Final Four playoff at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will go. To make sure you don't miss a minute, read our guide on how to watch Illinois vs. UConn live streams and why using a VPN will come to your rescue if you're overseas this weekend.

How to watch Illinois vs. UConn in the US
All of 2026's March Madness games (i.e. both Final Four games and the National Championship) are being simulcast across TBS, TNT, and truTV in the US. So, if you have any of those channels on your cable plan, you're good to go. And there are several options available to cord-cutters, too.
The DirecTV MySports plan from the popular OTT provider is a great example. It offers an array of premium sports channels that include TBS, TNT, truTV, ESPN, FS1, FS2, NBA TV, NFL Network, and the Golf Channel, among others. It costs $65 a month with a $20 discount off your first two months, and there's a five-day free trial for first-time customers.
Sling TV is among the most affordable options for cord-cutters. You can choose between its Blue plan, which starts at $46 a month for 40+ channels, or the more flexible Orange plan. Passes for the latter cost $5 for one day, $10 for three days, $15 for a week, or $46 for a whole month. Both options carry TBS and TNT among their line-ups, and you can use our dedicated guide to Sling Orange vs. Blue to help you choose between the two.
Live coverage of all 2026 March Madness games will also be carried by streamer HBO Max. You'll need to subscribe to either its Standard ($18.49 a month or $185 a year, HD, stream on two devices, no ads) or Premium ($23 a month or $230 a year, 4K UHD, Dolby Atmos, stream on four devices, no ads) plans. HBO Max is also available as part of a Disney Plus bundle, which costs $33 a month and gives you access to HBO Max Standard, Disney Plus, and Hulu, all with no ads.

How to watch Illinois vs. UConn from anywhere
It's a horrible feeling to think that you might miss out on this Final Four game just because you're traveling overseas this weekend. But you won't be able to watch your usual coverage on HBO Max or DirecTV if you're outside the US, and that free DAZN stream only works if you're in one of those 40 eligible countries. The only way we know to get around annoying geo-restrictions like this is by using a VPN (virtual private network) and choosing a server back in your home country.
NordVPN is the VPN industry's biggest baller. It's fast, easy to use, offers affordable plans, and has a fantastic track record for unblocking streaming platforms that you wouldn't ordinarily be able to watch from outside your country. New to the world of VPNs? You can give NordVPN a try risk-free thanks to its no-quibble 30-day money-back guarantee. Note: The use of VPNs is illegal in certain countries and using VPNs to access region-locked streaming content might constitute a breach of the terms of use for certain services. Business Insider does not endorse or condone the illegal use of VPNs.
