When it comes to shampoo and conditioners, I used to be open to using a variety of products as long as I liked the smell and texture. I quickly realized this wasn’t the best approach, as everyone’s hair type varies: in my case, I have a lot of hair, but my strands are fine. This means that product can build up quickly in my hair, giving it a piecey, weighed-down look. Plus, I have a wavy texture that’s quite stubborn unless blow-dried or styled wet-to-dry.
I was curious when Cardi B announced she was releasing her own hair care line, Grow-Good. During the COVID-19 lockdown days, I took some cues from her Instagram hair tips, including a DIY avocado hair mask for moisture support. At the time, my hair was fairly damaged from using old straighteners and curling irons, but Cardi’s at-home mask recipe was a key factor in nursing it back to health. It seems this recipe was the basis of her new Get Rich hydrating mask, my favorite in the collection.
