This online jeweler made me a 3D-printed replica of my wedding band

I got my wedding band at Eliette, an online jeweler that offers 3D-printed resin mockups. It let me try on my ring before bringing it to life.

When it came time to find my wedding band, I turned to Pinterest boards and Instagram Reels for inspiration… Let's just say my social media algorithms are in full "bridal era" mode. Through my diligent digital search, I realized I wanted something unique, a little funky, but still elegant. I came across the brand Eliette, a small women-owned jeweler in San Francisco, and was immediately drawn to their unique spin on classic ring styles. The only caveat? The jewelry brand is exclusively online.

Not being able to try my wedding band on before buying it initially turned me off (I'll be wearing it forever, after all), but I couldn't stop thinking about one of Eliette's pieces. So, I decided to take a chance in hopes of my dream ring turning out as beautiful as it looks online.

I was nervous to buy my wedding band online, so I opted to try a resin mockup first.

I wasn't completely sold on investing in a wedding band without trying it on first, so I was excited to see that Eliette offers an option to book a virtual consultation and order a resin mockup. First, I met with a member of the Eliette team to discuss a few of my favorite designs and which styles would fit seamlessly with my engagement ring.

Once I settled on the Wave in 18K Yellow Gold, I ordered a resin print, which is a 3D-printed model that uses the exact same specs as the final ring. The wedding band resin prints are $100, but I believe that's worth the peace of mind of knowing I'll love the band's look and fit. The resin ring was delivered within 10 business days, and I appreciated that it came with clear instructions on how to handle and test the ring.

The mockup was a bit tough to get on due to the resin material, but putting it on my finger confirmed my choice and made me excited to order the actual band.

There are subtle differences between the resin and the final ring.

Eliette makes it clear that there are some expected imperfections with the resin prints, such as exaggerated prongs and slightly rough edges. Still, trying this method first gave me the confidence I needed to order the actual ring.

The final product took only a few weeks to be made and delivered. Upon opening the mailer, I was impressed with the packaging. I loved the branded brown box it came in, and when I opened that box? A high-pitched squeal was heard around the neighborhood.

While the ring came out gorgeously, there were subtle differences between the final piece and the resin. The resin was a bit chunkier than the actual ring, which was also to be expected based on Eliette's resin print guidelines. It was daintier than the mockup, but it stacked perfectly with my solitaire engagement ring.

I would've preferred to try the actual ring on, but the resin mockup was a reasonable alternative.

Of course, the drawback of shopping for an engagement ring or wedding band online is not being able to actually see or feel it. Considering the investment and significance of a wedding band, it's understandable why couples would hesitate. The resin mockup helped me better visualize what the ring would look like on my finger, even if it wasn't an exact replica.

The bottom line

I might not have bought this ring without the option to order the resin print first, so I'm grateful that this is something Eliette offers (and other online jewelers should follow suit). Between the virtual consultation and resin print, the entire process of buying my band online was seamless. I also saved time from in-person fittings and consultations by ordering my ring online.

It turned out to be worth the investment to make such a meaningful decision with confidence. I truly couldn't be happier with my ring, and I can't wait to finally wear it on my wedding day.
