A federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump ripped into the Department of Justice for its “appalling” and “reckless” lack of candor in a case involving gender-affirming health care for minors.
Last year, the DOJ began sending out sweeping administrative subpoenas demanding detailed sensitive medical information about minor patients who had received gender-affirming care at hospitals nationwide.
When Rhode Island Hospital (RIH) received a subpoena demanding the names, Social Security numbers, addresses, diagnoses, clinical histories, and family information of its patients, it began negotiating with the DOJ over the subpoena’s applicability and scope, Rhode Island District Court Judge Mary McElroy wrote this week in an order quashing the subpoena.
