Denver Public Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero will receive a one-time bonus of $17,326 — 5% of his annual salary — for meeting at least 85% of his goals during the last school year, according to his performance evaluation, which was unanimously approved by the Board of Education on Monday.
The board passed the evaluation after several discussions that were held behind closed doors via executive session, including during Monday evening’s meeting. Members did not discuss the evaluation publicly before voting to approve it.
DPS board President Carrie Olson thanked Marrero for his leadership, especially regarding his work to get a nearly $1 billion bond measure on the Nov. 5 ballot and the district’s response to the unexpected arrival of hundreds of migrant children last year.
“We’re really grateful for all that you have done for Denver Public Schools,” Olson told the superintendent.
Marrero, who was hired in 2021 to lead Colorado’s largest school district, makes $346,529.12 annually.
Last year, the superintendent received a 10% raise as well as a $8,235 bonus for meeting more than 80% of his goals.
