A Democratic Rep. savaged the zealotry of MAGA lawmakers with two simple words on Wednesday as the House opened for debate on Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” following its approval in the Senate. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is a time for choosing,” GOP Rep. Mark Alford told the floor while brandishing an enormous poster of Trump. “We can choose to side with the illegal aliens, unelected bureaucrats, and fear mongering from the American left, or, we can choose to side with the American people and deliver on the mandate that they gave us back in November. I urge my colleagues to put America first, support the rule and pass the One Big Beautiful Bill!” Responding to Alford was Democratic lawmaker Jim McGovern, who tore into his counterpart’s idol worship of Trump and the hollowness of his words. “Cult much?” said McGovern. “You know, that gentleman’s poster says it all, it’s not about American families, it’s about one big party for Trump, it’s about swelling up his ego.” He later added: “In Congress, we can measure how much people really believe in their position by whether they’re willing to come and join their leaders on the House floor. Well, I count four members on the Republican side, and we’ve got over 75 over here. But if I were them, I wouldn’t want to be associated with this bill either.”
