Amazon Web Services has a new marketing chief.
On Monday, AWS's CEO Matt Garman told employees that the company has hired former SAP and Microsoft executive Julia White as its new chief marketing officer, according to an internal email obtained by Business Insider.
White was most recently the chief marketing and solutions officer at SAP. Before that, she spent almost 20 years at Microsoft in various roles, including corporate vice president for the Azure cloud computing unit.
White will replace Raejeanne Skillern, who will be leaving to spend more time with her family and resume her board member roles elsewhere, the email said.
White is the newest addition to AWS's senior executive group. The company recently added Colleen Aubrey, Amazon's former advertising executive, as SVP of AWS Solutions, and Baskar Sridharan, an ex-Google Cloud VP, as VP of AI/ML services.
AWS has also seen a number of executive turnovers in the past year. Most notably, its former CEO, Adam Selipsky stepped down in May. Matt Wood, VP of AI, also left in October.
Here's the full email Garman sent to employees on Monday:
Team,
I am excited to introduce a new leader for our Marketing org, Julia White, who joins us today as Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, AWS. Raejeanne Skillern has decided to leave Amazon to prioritize more time with her family, resume Board of Directors service, and pursue new career opportunities, and I want to thank her for her contributions and wish her the best.
With a strong background in marketing, Julia brings extensive experience in cloud, AI, and product messaging and positioning, most recently as CMO and executive board member at SAP. While there, she led critical areas like product and industry marketing, solution management, digital and brand marketing, regional marketing, industry solutions, and value engineering. Prior to that, she was at Microsoft for 19 years where she held many roles, including as the Corporate Vice President of product marketing for Azure, Developer Tools, and Servers.
Julia will join my leadership team and further develop and execute our global marketing strategy, playing a pivotal part in AWS's growth. Please extend a warm welcome as she joins our team. I know she will learn from many of you as well as our customers and partners while she's at re:Invent in a couple of weeks.
Matt
