70-year-old man killed in Aurora crash while walking in crosswalk

The 70-year-old pedestrian was crossing Sixth Avenue at Potomac Street in Aurora at about 5 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck and killed by an eastbound driver, police said.

A fatal crash in western Aurora early Tuesday morning killed a pedestrian and shut down eastbound Sixth Avenue for hours, police said.

The 70-year-old pedestrian was crossing Sixth Avenue at Potomac Street at about 5 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by the driver of a Ford F-150 truck, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department. The man was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash, police said.

Police said the truck was headed eastbound on Sixth Avenue.

Paramedics took the unidentified man to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity and cause of death at a later date.

The Ford F-150 driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. As of Tuesday evening, alcohol and speed were not believed to be factors in the crash.

Eastbound Sixth Avenue was closed Tuesday for nearly three hours during the crash cleanup and investigation. It reopened just after 7:30 a.m., police said.
